When you hear the words 'London College of Fashion Collaboration', you know it's going to be good. So when I was invited to the breakfast launch of the New Look and LCF Footwear Collaboration, I was very excited.
Without being told too much information before hand, I wasn't sure what to expect from the collection, and whether the designs would be very catwalk fashion (read: can't walk in them) or, true to the New Look ethos, wearable fashion.
The project was a competition between MA Fashion Footwear LCF students to create footwear for New Look that would be produced and sold nationwide (a huge coup for up-and-coming footwear designers). Judged by an industry panel including Jonathon Kelsey and Giles Deacon, a final six students designs were chosen, and the overall winner was Chang Seok Ko, and his creative denim designs. The runners-up Ruth Jones, Guang Jin, Kim Kwang and Adriana Lurascu (pictured with her designs, below) will also have the designs manufactured and the entire LCF collection will be available in store in May.
Unlike designer collaborations with established designers, these student collaborations can give a helping hand in a highly competitive industry, which really make a difference to the careers of up-and-coming designers. So support a great cause and treat yourself to some fabulous footwear.
