My Favourite Fashion and Red Carpet Moments of 2012

Mulberry had, in my humble opinion, the best advertising campaign with their eccentric, tongue-in-cheek Brighton Rock spring summer 2012 campaign. The oversized props and ice-cream coloured items still has been wishing I was by the seaside. Read the Mulberry post here.

Ah, February. The home of Autumn Winter Fashion Weeks the world over. How can I pick just one catwalk show to sum up AW 2012 fashion weeks for me? Well I can't! From Jason Wu and Badgley Mischka in New York, to Jena.Theo and Clements Ribeiro in London, they were all different and fabulous in their own way.

The baroque, decadent drama we saw at fashion week was so apparent on the high street this season, with velvet, baroque embellishment and dark berry shades. Read all my autumn winter 2012 fashion week posts here.

We had Paris Fashion Week, including a stellar show from Alexander McQueen via Sarah Burton. But I had a great month as I was nominated for the Company Magazine Style Blogger Awards. Sadly no awards, but got to catch up with lots of my favourite faces. Click here to read the Compang Blogger Awards post.

Coachella got us in the mood for festival fashion, with A-list stars showing how to do festival chic even in desert heat. BFF Rihanna and Katy Perry led the fashion pack and showed that 90s fashion is definitely back in town and reminded us how much we did love our bomber jackets. Read the Coachella fashion from the fields post here.

One of my favourite red carpet events of the year is always the Cannes Film Festival, and in 2012 we had some amazing looks from Cannes favourites Eva Longoria and Dianne Kruger, but also some surprises from new-comers like Jessica Chastain in Gucci - fluid, floaty red carpet perfection. Read the Cannes Red Carpet post to see all the dresses.

The Spice Girls reuniting on the red carpet for the launch of Viva Forever, their new musical with all their 90s hits, has to be a highlight. Any child of the 90s will share the joy of seeing all 5 of them back together (no matter how bad the reviews are now the musical is out!). Read the Spice Girls Red Carpet post here.

As we swelled with pride during the Olympics, people showed their Team GB spirit with their nail art. We saw GB print nails and athletes and DIY tutorials on blogs around the world as people wore their sporting hearts on their nails, not their sleeves. Read the Olympic Nail Art post here.

Jessica Biel was a new Red Carpet Queen on her Total Recall promotional tour. Wearing lots of nude and white shades with feminine, classic silhouettes and delicate fabrics she added a romantic flair to the red carpet. My highlight was the Dior number seen above, pure old school glamour. Read the Jessica Biel Red Carpet Queen post here.

Can it be Fashion Week time again already?! Of yes it is, September means it's time for the spring summer fashion weeks to start and the fashion pack will be rolling into town again. Summing up spring summer 2013 perfectly for me has to be Marc Jacobs and his psychedelic stripes and 60s inspired collection. Darker colours than usual for summer, but I'm hooked. Read all the spring summer 2013 fashion week posts here.

Another year filled with stunning wedding dresses was topped off by Anne Hathaway in Valentino. The delicately pink toned gown had off the shoulder detail and endless lengths of tulle and crystals. The sketch that Valentino released was almost as beautiful as the dress its self. Read the post about Anne Hathaway's Wedding Dress here.

After catching my eye earlier in the year as the covergirl of asos magazine, Elizabeth Olsen (little sister to Ashley and Mary-Kate), remained a firm favourite of mine thanks to her sleek red carpet style and laid back everyday style of tees, classic denim and perfect accessories. Read all about Elizabeth Olsen's style here.

And we're back to December! Where has the year gone?? So as December and 2012 comes to an end, all that's left to do is pick your New Year's Eve outfit. I've picked some of my favourite looks for all budgets for New Year's Eve. See all the New Year's Eve outfit ideas here.

What was your highlight of 2012?

The Best New Year's Eve Outfits

New Year's Eve is a great excuse to throw on an amazing party dress, killer heels and really get glam. I've pulled together some of my favourite New Year's Eve outfits, featuring vintage touches, elegant jumpsuits, metallic accessories and spotlight-stealing maxi dresses.

Want to make an impact? Then take your style to the max with a maxi dress. Nothing says glamour like a floor skimming dress and NYE is the perfect excuse to wear a stand-out maxi dress. This satin dress is a steal from Topshop at only £58. Mix the simple t-shirt shape with metallic sandals and geometric accessories.

You don't have to go for black at your New Year's Eve party, this pretty blush coloured pleat detail dress from Warehouse is perfect for a glamorous party. Match it with Topshop's sparkly, ladylike bow courts and minimal accessories for a killer look.

When is a dress not a dress? When it's a jumpsuit! This electric blue jumpsuit from Topshop has elegant fluted chiffon sleeves and an a-line shape and makes a great alternative to a dress for NYE. Keep with the colour blocking with these sandals and add just a touch of sparkle with these vintage inspired earrings from asos.

What will you be wearing for New Year's Eve?

New Look Spring Summer 2013

With only 10 days to go until Christmas, you're probably not that focused on your spring summer 2013 wardrobe. But I have a feeling this first look at the New Look spring summer 2013 collections from their recent press day will change your mind.

The feminine, floral collections with hot pink, lime green and coral really caught my eye and had me day dreaming of fresh spring days (without layers and layers of knitwear!). The stand-out pieces included pretty pastel boucle dresses with exposed zips and neckline jewellery that are so perfect for a summer wedding outfit or a day at the races and a prom style dress with metallic and pink flowers that matched the embellishment usually seen on the catwalk.

But cutting through the classic spring shades was the black and white collection that had more than a nod to the current grungey, 90s trends. Mixing stripes, skater skirts, bomber jackets, statements tees, polka dots and over-sized knits, this collection isn't your typical spring collection but I love it.

But it doesn't stop there, as always one of the main focuses of any New Look press day are the shoes and accessories. I still can't get enough of a chunky chain with neon pops worn with a plain tee, and there were lots to choose from. The bolted, bronze clutch bag with geometric shapes was love at first site - perfect to add some punch to a black and white look.

The new collections will be in store and online at New Look in the new year.

Gillette Venus Naked Skin Challenge: Part One

A few weeks ago I was given the challenge to test and review the Gillette Venus Naked Skin at-home IPL hair removal system. I jumped at the chance to review this as I think most of us look for the holy grail of permanent, painless hair removal so we can have smooth, summertime skin all year round.

Venus Naked Skin uses a unique, professionally-derived Square Wave technology to emit controlled, consistent light energy to effectively treat unwanted hair. You could experience noticeable hair reduction in as little as six treatments. The system comes with the specially formulated V Activating Gel that enables the light to transfer seamlessly to the hair root helping to put it to sleep. With continued, periodic use, Venus Naked Skin helps to break the cycle of hair re-growth leaving you with continuously smooth, continuously beautiful skin.

Venus Naked features:
  • An at-home device derived from professional Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology
  • Includes V Activating Gel for an effective light transfer and to help you track where you have already treated
  • Features a built-in safety sensor and Integrated Skin Tone Sensor to ensure a customized level of treatment
  • Bulb provides 50,000 flashes
  • Venus Naked Skin can be used everywhere, including the face and below the neckline, such as your legs, underarm, bikini line, arms, back and stomach
  • Corded device allowing you to complete a full treatment without the need to charge

How does Venus Naked Skin work?
  • Venus Naked Skin is derived from professional IPL technology
  • Light energy is transferred through the V Activating Gel to target the melanin in the hair, helping to put the hair to sleep
  • Ongoing treatments help to break the cycle of hair re-growth
  • During the start up phase, use for 6 –12 treatments once every 2 weeks and then once every 2 months to maintain

Here's my review having used Gillette Venus Naked Skin for 2 weeks and 2 treatments and how to use the system at home. I'll post again in week 4 and week 6 and let you know just how effective and easy this product is.

What To Wear To The Christmas Party

This is a thoroughly selfish post, as I'm actually looking for an outfit to wear to my work Christmas party, and thought doing a post about it may actually help me find a dress or an outfit.

If you've already been buying presents or have some money set aside for presents, then you might not have all the dosh you'd like to spend on yourself, so I've looked at different budgets for a top to toe Christmas party look.

If you've got a tight budget to stick to, this entire look from New Look (including shoes!) is just £35.

Nothing beats the classic LBD (little black dress), and this vintage inspired wrap dress with delicate lace shoulders from Warehouse looks amazing teamed with red shoes and art deco earrings.

If you want to push the boat out for Christmas, then this Limited Edition Topshop dress is your new best friend. In emerald green, this flapper dress will make you the belle of the Christmas ball.

What are you wearing to your Christmas party?

British Fashion Awards 2012

The bright and shining stars of British fashion attended the British Fashion Awards 2012 last night in an equally stylish setting at The Savoy in London. I don't think there were many surprises when it came to the winners, but there were some very beautiful people wearing very beautiful clothes!

It's s tough one, but I thing Rita Ora in ice blue Vivienne Westwood was the stand out best dressed on the red carpet, but I did absolutely love Cara Delevingne in a metallic green mini dress from Burberry. Well, the model of the year doesn't have to do full length to make an impact on the red carpet, does she?

Alexa Chung was slightly under-dressed, but this is her 3rd year winning most stylish, so what do I know! Gemma Arterton can be hit or miss on the red carpet, but thanks to British Designer of the Year, Stella McCartney, she looked amazing in a feminine suit. It's the slight peplum that makes this look fresh, interesting and super flattering. AND THOSE HOLOGRAPHIC SHOES! They're just ... wow! But please remove the bangle, it's not working with this otherwise amazing look.

Eddie Campbell and Portia Freeman were immaculately dressed in spring summer 2013 trends, picking up on bold geometrics and swinging 60s shapes - just too gorgeous.

If you want to see highlights from the night and all the winners and, most importantly, what they were wearing, watch the video below.

Elizabeth Olsen: Style Stalking

After watching 'Liberal Arts' I'm now completely converted to the littlest Olsen sister, Elizabeth Olsen. I totally get the hype surrounding the new up and coming actress and I especially love her laid back day time style and super sleek red carpet style. I first spotted this new style crush when she graced the cover of asos magazine in January.

Elizabeth has an amazingly sleek red carpet style, which mixes paneled separates, t-shirt style evening wear and classic shapes. Adding a splash of leather on the red carpet gives an otherwise traditional skirt or dress a younger vibe. And she often plays on a monochromatic colour palette, but adds interest with embellishment and different textures and fabrics.

This Olsen has clearly taken some style tips from Mary-Kate and Ashley and has a super laid back, casual look for day. By mixing in masculine accessories, like this over-sized watch, floppy hat and brogues, basic pieces like tees and denim cut-offs look effortlessly stylish.

Do you like Elizabeth Olsen's style?

The Angel Of Thanksgiving

As today is Thanksgiving in the US, I'd like to share a very personal Thanksgiving story with you all. My Grandma Myrtle traveled the world giving inspirational lectures about her life and one of the main things that inspired her; the power of gratitude. It was on one of these trips that she managed to visit Thanksgiving Square in Dallas, Texas and was so inspired by this daily reminder to give thanks and have gratitude for all you have that she decided to bring something to her home town of Belfast where people could go, irrespective of religion, and give thanks. And so began 'The Angel of Thanksgiving'.
She's been called 'The Doll on the Ball' and 'Nuala With the Hula' - but few know the real story behind the 'Angel of Thanksgiving' beside the Queen's Bridge in Belfast. Yet the sculpture represents a struggle of nearly 20 years by Belfast woman, Myrtle Smyth to bring to the city, a symbol to remind us of the power of gratitude. She was inspired by Thanksgiving Square in Dallas, Texas, and single-handedly raised the money for the sculpture which has quickly won the hearts of the people of Belfast and has become a new emblem for a new city and a new era for Northern Ireland.
My Grandma is sadly no longer with us, but this historic and beautiful testament to her vision and the power of gratitude is now a landmark and beacon for Belfast and Northern Ireland.

I'm very proud of her and what she achieved with not just the statue, but her continued determination for progress, hope and gratitude.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Reiss Spring/Summer 2013

On Thursday evening I attended the first ever Reiss blogger event and got to have an exclusive preview of the upcoming spring/summer 2013 collections. Their beautiful showrooms were kitted out with the new season must-haves, including menswear, womenswear and the new Reiss 1971 collections.

I loved the candy shades and feminine tailoring of the spring/summer collection which was a perfect antithesis to the dreary winter days of November. Scalloped edged shorts, frills, lace, ribbons and pleats gave extra dimensions to classic summertime pieces, bodycon shapes and ice-cream shades.

If you're a regular reader you'll know that I have something of a bag addiction, and the box shaped bags and oversized clutch bags were right up my street. From berry-pink leather to tortoiseshell perspex, I loved them all. But the tortoiseshell perspex box bag (below) is going straight to the top of my wishlist. Not very practical but oh so covetable.

Sensual and graphic, SS13 incorporates voluptuous materials and looks to the work of Nick Knight for inspiration, celebrating vivid colours and blurring them for effect.

There’s a play with fabrication in a tonal way. Colour or print is worn head-to-toe but realised in different textures and fabrics. A sheer shirt, brocade jacket and jacquard jean all appear in colour unison but each resonate a new texture. A modern match.

Ruffles are served up in structured fabrication across skirts, dresses and jackets reflecting the modern femininity that runs across the collection as a whole, whilst lingerie trims and detailing offset bodycon garments.

Dominating colours include: graphic black and natural, pale pink on black, and pops of watermelon, cornflower, olive and navy. A play on texture is exercised in natural fabrics of: raffia, linen and canvas.

Reiss have also launched a new feature on the site, an interactive 'Wishlist' so you can email your Christmas wishlist as a not-so-subtle hint(!) or just help you plan your dream outfit. And every week before Christmas Reiss are giving one lucky person the chance to win their wishlist. So start creating yours and enter for a party-perfect capsule wardrobe. Create your wishlist here.

Are you already skipping autumn/winter and thinking about spring/summer 2013?
