Festival Fashion: Fashion from the Fields

It's festival season and it's time to dust off those wellies for another trip to the fields. I've just been towed out of the mud at the Isle of Wight festival (literally! Not even kidding.) and while this festival was more waterproofs, layers and thermals than festival fashion, here's my guide to what's hot in the fields this Summer.

Festival fashion's not just about micro denim cut-offs and wellies (FYI, I saw enough bum hanging out of shorts to last me a life time at IoW). Mix it up with statements prints, vintage inspired dresses and laid back denim. The highstreet is full of cool and stylish pieces that will work to kick-start your festival wardrobe, but will see you through the whole Summer. The ultimate festival tip is to layer, layer, layer - the weather can be sunburn inducing or hailing on the same day (again, IoW!). And whatever you do, don't forget your wellies!

You off to any festivals this year? What will you be wearing?

'Viva Forever' Spice Girls Musical Launch

The Spice Girls returned to the hotel they trashed in their 1997 'Wannabe' video today to launch the Sprice Girls musical, 'Viva Forever'. Instead of running about the place dancing on tables, pulling off table cloths and sitting on an old man's lap, the fearsome five-some struck a well rehearsed pose in designer duds (no pleather or Buffaloes in site. Boo!).

While I do love their polished, glossy 2012 style, I find myself longing for the original 90s hair, make-up and, most of all, the fashion! Growing up, I was a Spice Girls freak who owned a 'Girl Power' top and blue and white Buffalo trainers and more than a few times pretended to be Posh.

If I have to pick a style winner from the 'Viva Forever' launch, it would have to be Mel C in her chic white sheath dress as the others look to heavy and dark for Summer and Geri disappointed in dull lace when she should have made like it was 1997 and put on a union jack and flashed her knickers!

Viva the Spice Girls, but let's have more 1997 than 2012!

Red Carpet Style: Emma Stone, Keira Knightly and Kristen Stewart

This has been a good week for red carpet style at premieres around the world. We've seen some stunningly elegant looks at the The Amazing Spider-man, Snow White and the Huntsman and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World premieres from hot young things Emma Stone, Kristen Stewart and Keira Knightly.

All three looks have been about 1 thing, embellishment. From Emma Stone's beaded Elie Saab tux style jumpsuit with an impossibly deep v neck, to Keira Knightly's folksy floral embellished dress that washes her out a bit but sure is pretty, to Kristen Stewart's heavily embellished bodycon midi dress that looks super sophisticated with her grown up make-up and messy bun, all three looks are made killer with a little extra beading, sequins and embroidery. You can never have too many sequins, can you?

Ps. sorry I've been a bit MIA recently, I've been in New York for work attending Full Figured Fashion Week, a fabulous event that celebrates curves and fashion and now I'm heading off to the Isle of Wight festival!

90s Dress Up with River Island

It's no secret I'm a 90s style addict and that I'm partial to a dress (or 30!), so I was pleasantly surprised to find so many gorgeous summer dresses at River Island. I was having my annual 'I hate my summer wardrobe' meltdown before going away to Barcelona for a friend's hen do (it was awesome FYI and I'm still recovering) and was trying to find some summer dresses that would triple up as work, beach and bar dresses as I like my dresses to multi-task, and found more than I could carry to the changing room at River Island.

I'm my humble opinion, River Island have the best summer styles on the highstreet at the moment in midi and maxi lengths, and here are some of the contenders that made it into the changing room with me and and the ones which made it into my suitcase. So if 90s tribal prints, Aztec geometrics and ombre dresses are your bag, you best hot foot it down to River Island before I buy them all.
